An experiential
path to awakening

In the fall of 2023, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will inaugurate the Tergar Institute at his monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. Blending the traditional Vajrayana Buddhist approach of experiential instructions (myong khrid) with contemporary approaches to learning, the Tergar Institute offers rigorous study-practice programs aimed at training students to imbue every aspect of their lives with awareness, love and compassion, and wisdom.

Our inaugural program is entitled Foundations of Buddhist Experience. Focusing on the three pillars of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition—awareness, love and compassion, and wisdom—this course presents the basis of the Kagyu-Nyingma lineages. This program is the first offering in a multi-year program that will be announced later this year.

Using an experiential and applied approach to learning, we first explore these topics through a step-by-step meditative curriculum created by Mingyur Rinpoche, then through our lineage’s profound texts, and finally through the application of the teachings in real-world situations.

“The Institute provides a transformational learning process of discovering our inner well-being. The path to this discovery begins with conceptual understanding and deepens through direct experience. We then learn to apply our insights in everyday life. This style of learning combines both the intellectual and experiential in order to build healthy habits that inform every aspect of our lives.”
